My local dealer sorted me out a really good finance deal on my quadchip, it costs me the same a month as hiring a TW150 for 3 days.

Definately go see a doctor if you havent already, last op i had was keyhole day surgery, in and out in 4 hours, back to work 4 days later. (Supposed to be off for 2 weeks but I got bored!)

I have had 2 ops on my right knee for torn cartilage, one 16 years ago to stitch in back together, and one 2 years ago to shave off a small tear. Hasnt stopped me climbing, footlocking, or anything else really, and the only time I have properly locked the knee up and been in agony in the tree was during my CS38 assessment while lowering a casualty. Managed to finish the rescue and pass the assessment. Wearing a knee support wont help you in the long run imo, better off doing some exercises to strengthen and stabilise the knee. Do some reading up online or go see a physio, or both. Good luck.

I found it a very steep learning curve going from transits to 18 tonne lorry, but it did all come together in the end. Stick with it.

Less than that I would say, not too sure what I paid for mine, and they have gone up a little since then, but the list when I bought was about £14k I think.

3 phase really opens up your options, especially if you are buying secondhand. Single phase fetch a lot more on ebay as most diy types dont have 3 phase available.

What is your budget and do you have a decent compressor? Plasma cutters need a large volume of low pressure air, preferably dry air, so an air dryer is a good idea.

Wear pads weren't too bad, I had a couple done when I first got my crane.

Pretty sure fitting the canopy would be straightforward. If those brackets come off, then you could just sit the canopy on top and bolt it straight onto the wings. It would sit a couple of inches higher than is does on the standard tub.

Besides 75% of the AAAC requirements are legal minimum requirements anyway, and the other 25% are industry best practice. So there shouldn't be anything preventing any contractor going down that route.

There are ways of making regular payments, you can set up a director's loan account, so the co lends you money until the end of the year, then at the shareholders meeting the dividend is used to pay the loan account off. Only works if the co shows a profit though, otherwise you will have to pay income tax and NI on the difference. Using your personal vehicle and getting paid mileage can work out well, probably not with a land cruiser though as the fuel consumption will eat up 45ppm all on its own!

If you can't tow more than 750 kg then you can't tow your chipper either.

A 3.5 tonne tipping trailer would add about 2 tonnes of chip carrying capacity to your rig then. You would need another vehicle to tow the chipper, but if you had a 4x4 the combination of 2 vehicles trailer and chipper would be very flexible and a lot cheaper than a mog. Just a thought. Edit, just seen your post and yes.

Canter should be 3.5 tonne GVW, 7 tonne gross train, so truck can be fully loaded and still tow a 3.5 tonne trailer.

It would be much easier to trade the canter in for a bigger truck than uprate it, even if it is possible. Towing a chipper doesn't make any difference to how much weight the truck can carry. Barn doors won't help you either, on a twin rear wheel truck, if the tyre sidewalls are kissing thats a sure sign your overloaded.

Being ltd doesnt make anything cheaper. Limited liability is the only real advantage, and even then if the director(s) have been negligent then they can be held personally financially liable. You will struggle to get credit with a new ltd co, and will probably have to give a director's guarantee, which just formally states that the director(s) are personally liable in the event of bankrupcy.

No, but it does affect the weight distribution so you are far more likely to overload the rear axle.

Speed liner isn't a problem, neither are the abs plastic type liners unless they are a really poor fit. I'm sure we could work out a way of fitting the canopy on a Pro Tipper, does it have g clamps that fit under a lip on the original bed?
