  1. Before you send off your payments to FISA, I'd suggest you all read the "Safety Discord" article on p25 of Febs FJ. Without the FCA in there to look out for our interests, what chance does small business have? I'm personally not for or against the FISA, but just look into it and have your eyes open before sending payment.
  2. Going now, thanks to the weather and a cabinet reshuffle everything panned out right. There is a god.
  3. Husky should now be available, my mate has had his for a month now and is well pleased with it
  4. Bright and white here, about an inch of snow, freezing cold NE wind and around -3C right now. Cancelled today's climbing job, going planting instead behind a shelter belt so shouldn't catch the wind.
  5. I agree, I'm guessing that in total last year I had back out of my insurers more than I've paid in total over 16years. Of course, I could equally have never needed a claim and would have felt it was money wasted, but it wasn't.
  6. :elefant: Really? Have you been eating them again Tony? Each to their own I suppose. Live and let live.
  7. I was talking to a Pole last night, he flew back to UK two days ago, from icy -35C and 50cm snowfall in a couple of hours, no traffic chaos, schools stay open, shops have food and so on. 2cm here and we grind to a halt.
  8. My understanding of partially deaf people is that they can hear/lip read one person at a time, the problems occur when more than one speaks or background noises all conspire to make it hard to separate the voice from the noise. Turning to full volume might not help. Btw my last post wasn't a dig at you, it was poor timing and meant to follow directly after my previous post.
  9. He has hearing issues, so he can't use radios

  11. How about Text?, trouble is its a little slow. Or a modern Pager? I still think you'd have issues with speed and interpretation. I think hand signals are your best bet too:thumbup1:
  12. My wife wouldn't be seen dead operating a green chipper, it would just clash with everything!!
  13. This isn't a discussion on the suitability of an employer or anything else, this is advertising work, which may just help someone who is looking for work. That's all. If you want to work for the OP, then follow his directions and pm him. If you don't wish to work for him that's fair enough, but keep your thoughts ands comments for elsewhere, not in the Employment sector.
  14. Your location says "Europe" so plenty of room to move about without going near the LEZ. Or move?
  15. I agree with Worcs Wuss, I was off for far too long last year with a gut ache, I qualified for ESA, then a back to work payment. I also had a sickness policy which paid out as well, and critical illness cover. A one of my little problems was acute kidney failure, kidneys being one of the categories of "Critical Illness" I made a claim. Yep, you guessed it I had the "wrong" kind of kidney failure, it was only acute!! The fact that without immediate treatment I would be in a spot of bother was nothing to do with it. When I queried the "Critical" aspect of the cover, you should replace critical with the word terminal. To qualify for pay out, you must be expected to die from your illness. Oh lucky me It maybe worth considering health insurance even if you're employed, as many employers don't pay out any sickness, and SSP is very little to cope on. Personal accident and sickness policies are not a business expense and cannot be put against your taxes. At queries re: getting the correct benefits go to the Job Centre Plus and they will assist you. I found them very helpful and they made sure I got payments that I didn't even know existed.
  16. tony don't be hung up with things you think you need. Build up gradually, the least on loans and finance the better. All you need to do is plan your logistics a little more. Planning is cheaper than a dodgy loan. I'm not a climber, I don't have a smart fleet of vehicles and posh sign writing, I don't have the Bank of Mum and Dad to rely on. Yet somehow I manage to get decent work at top of the range properties without all that behind me. All this on top of having a belly ache last year and a bit of a sniffle. Just do it.
  17. If you really want it, go for it. I'm guessing as a diver you are fairly healthy, which is handy.
  18. Local farmers do the same under the exemption, and get me in to take down tricky trees or less straightforward tasks. I have recommended to them that they don't do lone working, wear ppe (JOhn Deere overalls and a flat cap work best) and have a (dirty handkerchief ) 1st aid kit available on site. Can't seem to get the point across about working from a teleported bucket yet!!
  19. Next week they'll be saying its good for you, these "experts" have to do something to justify their existence.
  20. Everyone knows you can never get a plumber for love nor money when you need one, hardly a comparison, laws of supply and demand. I can hire a chipper far far cheaper than the figures quoted, and that's for a range of Schliesings, not TWs. I accept this is a double edged sword, if someone can hire in a machine cheaply, they're not going to pay a high rate for an owner/machine to come in, but do it themselves.
  21. Proper job
  22. I was spoiled at the first company I worked for, we had Schliesings. When I went to another company, I should have checked the machines they had, Timberwolf. It was a real eye opener, suddenly life got ten times harder. I could barely contain my disappointment and frustration with the machines. I know if youve invested in a Timberwolf, it's your baby, your pride and joy, and you fail to see the shortfalls of it. And you have to live within your budgets and means. FTR, I'm not wealthy, I don't have either...I have a tatty old Jensen and a Jo Beau. The only thing in their favour is that they are bought and paid for. I've learned that its easy to sit and slag off a machine, when someone else owns it and pays for it, it's a different deal when it's your own.
  23. Yeah, the M500 is self propelled too isn't it? And 5" I guess would suck the fuel fairly. As an aside, £120k of artic truck goes out with driver for £400-£450 a day, burns a hell of a lot of fuel, cost a lot in road tax insurance etc, or £180k excavator out with operator is £27p/hr. Kind of puts chipper ownership into perspective I think.
  24. I was planning on going along, then I booked in a job and forgot which day it's on, so unless I can re-schedule it's out for me.
  25. 3litres of fuel per hour Ty? Are you sure? My JoBeau will do about 6 hours on a tank, which IIRC is around 5litres.
