  1. Yes, we don't allow naming/shaming on this site. Imagine if the boot was on the other foot and your handiwork was all over a forum getting slated, I'd guess you'd not be very happy. This is why your thread was removed.
  2. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members-only/55101-diary-new-life-starting-over.html this one?
  3. Start As you mean to carry on. We always used to laugh at the new guys running about the site trying to impress. All you got to do is turn up on time, do as you're told while you're there, stop for a sandwich when you're told and repeat through the afternoon. Leave the phone for breaks. Enjoy yourself.
  4. I think Penfold is correct. If you're operating a tractor between tree with low limbs, and there is a risk of catching low limbs with ROPs it can be temporarily removed, but only while in use in that scenario.
  5. Just a thought, get to the Cutters & Climbers Competition at Norfolk show ground, enter, win "most employable person" category and your away. Seriously, do some networking up there, you never know.
  6. Welcome to the forum Craobh. A lot of your terminology is right over my head. I pretty much read everything as well as I could and I was lost. I wonder if it could help if maybe you took some pics of your different cuts and how they are used, then maybe we can discuss similarities and differences in the techniques. Never to old to learn a new way.
  7. Did a lot of tree work at Nottcutts when I worked for Eastwoods many moons ago now. Great shot cuttermutter.Suffolk is the most beautiful county in this country, and the sun shines a lot. Don't call us the Sunshine Coast for nothing
  8. I don't think Capel suffered because of Cutters and Climbers either, a change of organising management, change of layout, dodgy economy haven't helped. Last years report in Forestry Journal was probably another nail in its coffin. And to be honest, take a strong Arbtalk following out of the crowd and that didn't leave many other folks looking around. It was probably my favourite show of the year, kicking off the season, and I'd follow it up popping up to Norfolk on the Sunday for the C&C. TBH if C&C had been held at Capel that show would be unbeatable.
  9. So sorry to read this. RIP.
  10. what He said ^^^
  11. And is exactly why I use a Chartered Accountant these days, it costs more but gives me a better peace of mind.
  12. Now if I was a cynic, I would say the subsequent tax investigation I had to endure after sorting my Dads affairs was brought forward out of spite for us winning the case. I can guarantee the investigations are not a pleasant affair, they really try to trip you up, there is no "nice" side to HMRCE, don't be fooled by a pretty face fronting it up for educational purposes. They are not there to help you, they are there to get the Treasurys monies, simples, if it means placing your testicles in a vice and tightening it up, they will.
  13. 3 years before his death, originally, interest accrued over about a five year period til we managed to get the house back.
  14. To clarify, my dad owed HMRCE some money, not a huge amount. He didn't pay it. He buried his head in the sand and hoped they would go away, they didn't. After his death, I found multiple carrier bags stuffed with letters from the Tax office, from bailiffs, from solicitors, from the bankruptcy court. This was the sort of Dad you put on a pedestal, I thought a lot of him. I could have lent him the money initially, but he ended up having to hand over the deeds to his house, because he wouldn't ask for help. He was allowed to stay in the house, till his death, it would then be taken by the State in lieu of the debt (still unpaid). We had to fight tooth and nail for two years, pay off all the costs and interests on the money too, and a team of solicitors to beat the system, which was totally stacked against us. I did win in time. Insurances, yes make sure you have it, how can you not? When I was in deep crap healthwise I was so glad I had insurance to protect my income, it was one less worry to wind me up.
  15. It took me two years of legal battles with HMRCE to get my Dads house back off them, for an original debt of £6700 in unpaid taxes. Simple I thought, offer to pay the debt and get the house back. No. They put on all legal fees of their case, compound interest on the original amount. After two years the debt had spiralled to £27k. I'm not defending my dad for his non payment, that was silly and he lost a £320k house for £6,700, if he'd asked I'd have paid it for him. I'm not blaming HMRCE, they have to recoup the costs and debts, can't have people defaulting, country would collapse financially.
  16. Hi I have a Honda 500, if it's not working hard at a guess around 40 miles per gallon, but I don't really watch consumption that closely. If its working hard, on heavy muddy terrain, in 4wd, pulling a load, probably nearer 30. Petrol always seems to last longer than I think though.
  17. They will take your house, for default of payment, and for far less than you think. And if you think it's easy to just pay them and get it back, it isn't, it takes a long time and a lot of legal expenses to take on HMRCE. Don't take the risk.
  18. Nowt wrong with you enjoying it, I didn't, didn't appeal to my sense of humour that's all.
  19. Intelligent.....not quite the term I would use for him. No wonder this country is in the state it's in if people actually look up to that kind of fool. Obviously the generation gap is just too wide these days.
  20. This is the employment forum. For people, mainly companies who are looking to employ staff. This is not the place to discuss/berate/ or moan about the company, do that in your local pub over a pint. Simple.
  21. Ok, just wanted to clarify a little, how far are you willing to travel for a days work?
  22. I did post a reply, but even i got super-modded. I guess I shouldn't influence the outcome, abuse of my postion and all that. Ho hum. Got to see the funny side though all the same.
  23. Nice one, always good to have a recommendation
  24. Just as a cautionary note, too much water is just as bad as not enough. You need to maintain a balance, or risk flushing the salts etc right out of your system. I'm an extreme example, I dehydrate typing this, my average daily intake is around 3litres of fluids, not just water. Add some isotonic powder to your drinks if you need a lot on a hot day, it's cheaper than buying sports drinks, but does the job. Headaches, "fuzziness" and nausea are clear indicators that things are going wrong. Camelbaks are ace, well worth the money, can even slide in ice packs to keep it cooler. I've never found it got in my way.
