  1. Hi Lofty, where are you based?
  2. There was a Panorama program about it and even the BBC conceded that it was an unmitigated disaster. If I remember correctly, it is so inefficient that the emissions and associated carbon produced would be reduced if it was reverted to coal. It is a typical greenwashing exercise ☹️
  3. Yes - not blunt, but not too sharp if that makes sense @Mark Bolam I deffo am 😂
  4. The euro gaffs place you even further from the stem and make it very difficult to use your heel or toe to brace yourself. I will see if I still have mine in the shed from years ago- you can have them if I do as I hated them with a passion. I have climbed on longs for years now and it was worth the little extra time getting used to them.
  5. I had to google Assarting - interesting thanks. Assarting is the act of clearing forested lands for use in agriculture or other purposes. In English land law, it was illegal to assart any part of a royal forest without permission. This was the greatest trespass that could be committed in a forest, being more than a waste: while waste of the forest involves felling trees and shrubs, which can regrow, assarting involves completely uprooting all trees—the total extirpation of the forested area. The term assart was also used for a parcel of land assarted. Assart rents were those paid to the British Crown for the forest lands assarted. The etymology is from the French word essarter meaning to remove or grub out woodland. In northern England this is referred to as ridding.
  6. Don’t live there now so can’t help, but there are plenty of firms to choose from - quick search on Facebook and google will get you started
  7. Bump - a great opportunity for someone. Will lead to a full time position for the right candidate Give me a call or message 07798 743573. Peter

    HS2 Over

HS2 was just not needed in a country this size. Extra rail capacity-yes, and needed urgently, but building a scar across the landscape at an insane environmental and social cost - no f***ing way. It was always a project for the huge civil engineering companies to make an obscene amount of money on. Unwanted, badly planned and funded and delivered irresponsibly.
  9. Arbs are usually slow and very inefficient in the woods. (There are always exceptions, but very few). I would pay a top cutter £250 and most arbs would struggle to earn £150.
  10. The proximity of these trees does not make them a hazard. Have they been inspected ? You could have the trees inspected by a qualified arborist and a report written. If the report indicates that the trees are in a dangerous condition you could present this to the local council - they have powers to deal with these issues when the land owner is absent or not known and there is a genuine threat/danger.
  11. I only started early because I’m on a half day Friday- driving about looking at work seems like a better way to end the week 👍🏻
  12. Morning all. Just finished my 3rd tank of fuel felling ash trees in the morning fog. Nice and cool. Enjoy your day folks 😎
  13. Morning all. Breakfast, dogs & chickens sorted & ready to start my day.
  14. Thankfully tourists don’t hit the road at 7am - I try not to work in the very centre of Whitby much in summer
  15. We are by the coast and travel up to 30 miles on a normal day. There is very little congestion so travel time is not a big factor
  16. Tokmal
  17. We used to modify old frame rucksacks . They were so cheap then (2nd hand) and did the job perfectly. Shame I never kept one
  18. Another bold red with tonight’s feast. A bit heavy for lamb - a decent Rioja would be my choice, but a nice potable bottle all the same.
  19. I have found that paying the bit extra, gets me a lot more. I was paying a newly qualified climber , just turned 21, a rate of £145 per day.(good money for Teeside ) In return he worked hard every day without a grumble and earned me some good money Nothing worse than a worker that is being paid less than what they think they are worth.
  20. Only mustard was on the salad dressing, where it belongs
  21. I’m having a nice full bodied red this evening
  22. Ring and email the council every day and politely request that they remove the tree from your property. Contact your local councillor and inform them of the situation. Become the biggest, politest headache they have and see what happens 👍
  23. Used to go to a good few gigs - a few of the highlights are ; AC/DC, U2, the smiths, Nirvarna, Pixies, the Pouges (with and without Kirsty Mc Coll), Pulp, Blur and a few Glastonbury’s 20 or so years ago. I got to see the most awesome Johnny Cash there amongst others.
