  1. Its possible all the ends were dying back prior to the reduction, who knows
  2. To be honest, I haven't climbed with some of the later hitch cords on the market. Pretty sure armor prus would work well with your rope. Others may offer better alternatives. As with everything, the recommendations vary. With a vt I would say 8mm would work better, other knots might well prefer 10mm
  3. The UK’s largest display and demonstrations of traditional woodland crafts is coming to Ragley Estate, Alcester, Warwickshire on the 20/21/22 September, as part of APF 2018 the UK’s largest and most exciting forestry, woodland, trees and timber show. The demonstrations feature rarely seen woodland crafts, many dating back hundreds if not thousands of years, but are still relevant and practised today by a small number of highly skilled craftsmen and women. Crafts being demonstrated include charcoal burning, coracle making, cane and rush seating, hazel hurdles, polelathe turning, oak swill baskets, wheelwright, willow weaving, Windsor chair making, steam bending scythe handles, besom brooms, dug out canoes, three legged stools, 17th Joinery, green oak building, spoon carving, whistle making, rolling pins, baby’s rattles, cleft gates and saw fettling! Many of the craftsmen are offering a have-a-go opportunity to try your hand at these skills. You can get a lesson in pole lathe turning from the current world champion, Peter Wood! Watch an iron rim being fitted to a wooden cart wheel. Saturday 22nd at 3pm will see the final of the World Log–to–Leg pole lathe turning championships where eight turners compete head to head in a frenzy of flying wood shavings to turn two Ash logs into two identical chair legs in the shortest possible time using only their leg powered lathes. The winning time is likely to be less than eight minutes! The championships are just one of a huge series of events taking place over the three days of APF 2018, other events include the World Poleclimbing Championships, the European chainsaw carving championships, Stihl Timbersports, the UK forwarder driving championships, fencing in the 21st Century, extensive woodland craft demonstrations and have-a-go opportunities, horse logging, vintage machinery and 2.5 miles and over £50 million of working forestry machinery. If you enjoy woodland, trees and timber this is show you must not miss. For more details contact [email protected] website: www.apfexhibition.co.uk

  5. Woudn't want to risk that!
  6. could be a few reasons, but in your case I think its down to a poor hitch cord/rope combination. Good rule of thumb with hitch cords it to use a hard cord on a soft rope, and vice versa. You are using a hard cord on a pretty hard rope(if memory serves), add into that the choice of 10mm cord rather than 8mm and you're always going to be struggling. That being said, the OP cord is known for taking a bit of bedding in, so it might improve a bit. I'm not a fan of the cord personally. When you are sitting back on it whilst aloft are you doing so tentatively? That can also make a difference. For example if you just let go and sat back on it quickly it would probably be more likely to grip than if you ease your weight onto it. Not an ideal situation though.
  7. Never understood the eye piercings. Theres so many scenarios where they could get ripped out. Before the hitch climber came on the scene I had my vt configured so the vt and the eye splice were each on their own karabiner. This was great for being able to split the system and walk through it in a sort of cradle. Unfortunately one day I got my nipple piercing jammed between the 2 krabs, that made my eyes water a little.
  8. Because he doesn’t need to! never say never though mark. a wise man once told me if we hit a recession you’ll be thankful to get out and even earn £50
  9. Rings shouldn’t be worn, a quick google will show you enough reasons to never wear one at work. I’d be more concerned about rings than any other jewellery
  10. Get in touch with Andy if you’re interested mate
  11. It’s never too far, but the haulage would kill it ?
  12. No its not, its from Bury St Edmunds itself
  13. Meaning is it from Rougham or can it be delivered there?
  14. I’m absolutely not, when working with decent guys on my wavelength....any other time I’m bloody horrible ?
  15. If you take my advice and go for the marlow makensure you get the right stuff...NOT marlow braid
  16. I’ve worked with loads of groundies who may well label me as a diva climber, guess what, they were all useless. ive worked with a small fraction of groundies who I never had a cross word with; guess what, they weren’t useless. could be a confidence? good groundies are worth as much as a climber
  17. Awesome rope and one of my favourites to this day, although I never tried it with a zigzag or srt. Marlow poly double braid (available from chandlers) makes for an awesome combination
  18. Approx 50t of Poplar ranging in size up to 3ft diameter. Can be delivered in the bury st Edmunds area or further if haulage paid. contact Andy Gentle on 01787 319200
  19. I could have saved myself a fortune this year with a pass. Other years I probably wouldn't have used one at all so I guess it depends how much you do this kinda stuff
  20. Hi Andrew, You might be better off asking your question at https://arboristsite.com which is a more American focussed forum with members who will be more familiar with the climate and available varieties.
  21. Ah I can probably manage that still
  22. I saw that briefly earlier. I wonder what the tests consist of. I need glasses!
  23. This is the only one I have nearby but its a school so might not be a lot of use during summer. Worth a call though if you get stuck as theres a mobile number there.
  24. Will be interesting to see how that turns out. On a side note, they seem to have a massive amount of saws, particularly top handled ones http://www.echotools.com/products/category/contents_type=26
  25. I think that was liros. Nod sold it, and yes it was awesome line, never ever knotted
