well she definetly doesnt want to lose it, she'd rather have some minimal work done on it to make it as safe as possible. i told her it was on its way out, no getting away from that! -

I priced a job today, 2 big beech trees, a center piece of the customers garden. One is dying back in the crown due to a root rotting fungus. As she doesnt want to lose the tree till she has to I am pricing to remove the deadwood and take some tip weight out of some long branches, pretty minimal stuff. In this instance do you think a mulch bed round the base of the tree would prolong the trees life and slow the root decaying process?

this pic os of a fungus the customer pulled off of a mature beech tree...its old, slimy and hard to ID. looking at the symptoms on the tree its a root rotting fungus but im unsure which. the bracket was apparently growing right at the base of the tree. measures approx 40cm across and is fairly heavy too

i dont think so kevin, it would have kept doing it if that were the case...it happened on each cut at about the same percentage of the way through the cut.

soon as i come up with the image im after i'll look into the t-shirts....i have a new avenue im looking into at the moment.

i use 11mm lines and they work great. an eye splice is best but in theory the retrieval ball can be girth hitched to the end of your line and should retreive fine....i might have a play sometime and let you know. i use 8mm line although some do prefer 9mm or 10. i think you'll find the majority use 8mm for a v.t. what 11mm line do you use? different cords work better on different ropes i have an art positioner, big thumbs up from me

we can agree on that....i would no sooner put a new climber on a shunt than i would a v.t or a lockjack

i never had any of those problems when i used a shunt other than speed regulation, but then i had that problem with the lockjack too. admittedly i didnt put much time into the lockjack to get the hang of it good

what exactly are the flaws alex?

v.t's fail to grab and do need to be watched....yet no one tells us not to use them, why is that?

its as safe as a lockjack IMO

was a prussek designed for arb? most of the gear and techniques we use are derived from other disciplines.....on one hand we are encouraged to be innovotive and on the other we're told otherwise!
