  1. reg, did you ever spend any more time on paolos "extreme rigging"?
  2. ok so moving on from that, is there any other techniques people are using that havent been discussed yet?
  3. as a general rule im pretty much with you ed
  4. yes but what are you proposing is left for the climber to do, climb and not bear responsibilities for anything else at all?
  5. might vary according to what spikes you use i guess. i use geckos and its plenty comfy underneath
  6. i wear my sawpod underneath my spikes
  7. anyone going to this? The site for this year's event is near Rothley in Leicestershire. The site is accessed from the North Bound A6 about 100 yards from its junction with the A46. The Event will be signposted. Open to the public from 9:30am Entrance £5 per Car which includes a programme. Catering Facilities on site.
  8. agreed reg, i think it just needs slight revision here and there, maybe shortened slightly
  9. point 3. if theres a 3 man crew, 1 of them needn't have a drivers license, so long as he can get to my yard somehow. point 4. many of the points here such as ensuring first aid kits are in the trucks are down to the employer and/or foreman IMO foreman could just as easily, and in my experience more likely be the climber point 7. "Call the customers before the crew arrives so that they can move their vehicles." "Determine if a traffic flagger is needed for busier roadways" these again are points that should have been addressed by the person quoting the work in the first place, and its the boss's job to call ahead to customers and arrange the job...again, IMO point 8. "Make sure spurs have gaff guards affixed, and that all saws have scabbards." I personally sort these things out myself point 23. "Learn how to drop cable and telephone lines" this is actually illegal over here
  10. its all very well a groundy having an aeriel rescue ticket but we all know in reality unless the groundy is climbing day in day out its highly unlikley he/she is going to get up a tree anywhere near in time if it came to it
  11. points 3,4,7,8 and 23 need revising or deleting. some of the things just arent all down to the groundsman, an example, sheathing of saws. I wouldnt expect the groundsman to sheath my saws..and definetly wouldnt want anyone but me anywhere near sharpening my chains, or gaffs
  12. in my experience its the velcro straps that will give out before the clips. you need to be careful particularly with the top strap, if you have it set wrong when you put your silky back in the sheath you can catch the strap with the blade. i learnt that the first time round, now i make sure i have the sheath pulled up higher in the sawpod
  13. think she was happy with the spec, probably just got beaten on price. i dont particularly try to compete when it comes to pricing.
  14. yes we are....hes changed it haha
  15. probably not to the guys family
  16. bit grim mate...i added a warning to your post
  17. thats slightly annoying robin i agree, but it doesnt make it any less secure. how are they taking off in the states?
  18. better make sure public cant trip over the cables
  19. this isnt an entry, just another example that you can show some good action in 30 seconds http://media.putfile.com/Oak1
  20. during a discussion with timberwolf today the question of how many people use torque wrenches to tighten their chipper blades came up. i know plenty of people do it by hand, ive started a poll just out of interest thanks
