i wanted to keep it short ed to encourage more posts...ie people who dont have a video camera can use short mobile phone camera clips

Ok everyone, time to get the ball rolling on our second competition. I was hesitant about running a video competition in case it didn't get too much support but then i figured, pretty much everyone has video recorder on their mobile phones these days so theres no excuse!!! videos can be uploaded on youtube, google, or any number of other sites offering free video uploads. If you need help or advice with this please feel free to contact myself or any other member. So we're looking for tree related work videos. The video can be no longer than 30 seconds. You may enter as many times as you like but will only be eligible for one placing in the final results. Once again I'd ask you enter one video clip per post and keep discussion between entries minimal to make the judging easier. Overseas entries welcome but winners will be required to pay postage. ive never really seen the point of competing against other people who are in the same boat as myself when we can be helping each other out instead....same goes for practical tree work also!

the M technique you mean?

if heaving a huge saw is an issue up a tree you can get away with a longer bar on a smaller saw, it will just be a slower process, and with tools coming on the market like reg's block driver, where theres a will theres a way!

what are these figures for...self employed or employed? i'd say the climber figures are about right for self employed. if you're talking employed then they are way too high, specially the new climber rates

i used to find the shunt very slippy in the wet, possible down the the rope i used though. good points on the larger diameter rope though....it is easier to grip though when wet.

its a very common knot over here dan. its particularly important to set it right though, ive seen them come undone, but in everycase its because they have been tied too loose and not set right

new england fly is failry water resistant early on in its life and is a good choice, failing that, any of the larger diameter lines. i always use a v't hitch regardless but hitch cord is defiinetly a factor. ive found hrc cord with new england fly is a good combo

as i always try every new technique and piece of gear as it becomes available i'd say my techniques are largely old school, but my general approach is more old school

would love to see the pics, the backing up dodgy anchor points sounds interesting. i tend to mess around with my v.t nearly everytime i change the cord, i found the xt pretty good with some cords, not so good with others.
