everyone whines and complains when LA's change things, well get off your a@@es and do something about it, your council tax is a contract between yourself and the LA, and what would you do in business if someone broke the contract......exactly the same rules apply, but the powers that be wont admit to it, if a few hundred folk were to ring up and tell them, NO, we dont agree with your changes, we are stopping paying till its sorted, they might actually start doing there job......they are PUBLIC SERVANTS by the way, we are there bosses, not the other way round. try speaking to them in that manner, I've doneit, and suddenly they startlistening, when they get told NO, thats not how it works, you listen to me,a few legalismns flung in also helps

I understand your statement, agrimog.

The issue in Worthing is that there are thousands of a particular kind of person living here who will always side with Authority.

The best way to describe them is with a few of their favourite phrases...

'Shouldn't ever have let them in the country'

'Things were so much better during the war'

'I know what I'd do about it'

'Kids today have it far too easy'

'Fill in the Channel Tunnel'

'Ooh thats too much, I've only got my pension you know'

'That week is no good for me, I'll be at my little villa in Nice'

'Look at that hair'

'Why is everyone in such a rush'

'Abolish National Health, make them pay for their treatment'

'Bloody university hippy layabouts'

'Im off the the Residents Association meeting soon'

'You can't park your lorry there you know'!

'The ivy grows over from next door you know'

'Send them back'

'I have reported HIM 100s of times but they don't do anything about it'

Like it!

We had a change to the refuse collection contractor a year or 2 back. Change is good (when it is good.)

Only problem was, they kept missing us off the pick up because the route was changed. It went on for 5 weeks. Each missed collection was phoned in to the help desk and resulted in a promise of a spec run and an adjustment to the route for future.

Sounds ok so far? Each call was at least 30-60 mins on hold because the call handlers were swamped. Each call was (supposedly) logged and resulted in a promise of rectification within 48hrs. Each call resulted in nothing at all actually being done!

So after the 5th week of missed collections, 5th call to the helpline and 5th broken promise of resolution within 48hrs, I went into the local 'one-stop-shop.' I was given the helpline number, my details were taken and I was promised it would be resolved. Great! I told the receptionist that if, by this time tomorrow the 6 weeks of garbage wasn't collected I'd be bringing it in to the one-stop-shop. She assured me all would be well and we parted with a nod and a smile and I said I hoped I wouldn't be back tomorrow....

I was, with a trailer load of 6 weeks of garbage - including new baby nappies! The caretaker was called and I asked him where he'd like it deposited. He was wild (poor bloke) suggested I take it to the tip. I politely pointed out that, as a courtesy, I was there to ask where he would like it not what I should be doing with it. Dumped it all in the carpark then sent them a bill for my time, unpleasant work and rebate of council tax in respect of 6/52 of the refuse collection element as a breach of contract.

Got a refusal to pay letter from the legal department.....:lol::lol:

as a follow up, how many of your LA's want the cans and bottles clean in the recycling bins, and how many of you have clicked onto the fact that the LA is selling this stuff on, now did you know you are legally entitled to bill your time as a subcontractor, and include a costing for any sundries used(you pay for your water....pass a % on to the LA), they will try to tell you to piss off, but a threat of a court case for non payment of bills soon wakens there ideas up

The problem is the la have to pay to dispose of all the waste at the recycling plant

It's not free for them so why should they dispose a lot trade waste which we all are aware happens even if not by you.

It's not a local problem and is a national issue

Unsure what the answer is but in Ireland you don't even get your bins emptied without paying a private company.
