I've always assumed that steel carabiners are preferred because they can better endure an impact with something hard. Is there any other reason why I shouldn't use aluminium if it's suitably rated?

Ally krabs for climbing/ppe

Steel for rigging, (the exception being DMM revolvers for speed lines) keeps it simple.

At least that way I can be certain that I'm not hanging off something that's possibly been clattered in the past,.

I have no problems using ali krabs for light rigging...but always use steel for heavier rigging. Exceptionally heavy rigging, ditch the krabs altogether.

That's ridiculous.

How is the end of the rigging line attached then?
