What are you charging for your logs this season

Recommended Posts

I wondered why we were bankrupt... :)

Being serious though obviously there is a small amount of profit, there's certainly enough others around here charging around that amo. Hardwood is around £58 a ton here and that gets you about 1.8cube maybe it's more expensive with you?

Edit: no one in this area wants softwood so this is the first year experimenting with it.

You must be running a really tight ship to make those numbers stack up. You are a bit unfortunate if that is what people around you are charging. On the price of cord, we have found its been more of a buyer's market this year and have bought fairly large quantities for average price £51 per tonne delivered. Last year was £55.

That's a good price. We've actually gone the other way but hopefully if the price is lower in other areas that will limit future rises a bit.

I don't mind a bit of competition (we wouldn't be too happy if we had no choice where to buy cordwood from) but it is irritating when a price rise instantly makes you seem overpriced although our customers are pretty loyal because we have the quality of logs.

We do have to be very careful with expense, especially production speed but we're lucky that we have a farm to hire tractors /loaders from and we're selling 800-1000 tons on the log side so things like the processor aren't costing much per load.

Wow, I'm surprised the hardwood/softwood price difference is so little. Density of most seasoned softwoods is around half most hardwoods, so around half the btus in a m3, and you end up loading stoves twice as often, ish. So as a custmoer its worth paying about (almost) twice as much for hardwood as it is for softwood. That assumes quality is equal and hardwood is available.

I'm still charging between £80 - 65 for hardwood depending on how many bags are in the order. Softwood £42- 50 per cubic meter bag, again cheaper the bigger the order.

All with a moisture content of about 16%.

far to cheap but that's approaching on the expensive side in this area.

There's lot of busy fools about:lol:

I see where you are coming from, you're equating common sense with a wood burner and the fuel you put in it!!

To be fair, the majority of stove owners bought them as a fashion accessory, therefore are clueless.

Lol! True, stoves are the trendy must have for middle class and many get used just a few times a year.... Christmas day, new year's eve, and aunty Phyllis' birthday. But then don't those sort buy logs by the net, £25 for about 10 kilos of wet wood, at B&Q?
