Yeah, that's right ;)

Either present the evidence or don't make claims you can't back up.

Matelot has a valid point to make.

Yes, back in the European Dark ages, Meadevial period etc, there was an intellectual flowering under Islam in the Arab world.

And "our" Crusauders were absolute barbarcic philistines compared to the then Muslim states

But not in the last couple of hundred years, has the Muslim/Arab world contributed much to knowledge or technological advancement.

On the other hand, the other Semetic people, the various Jewish populations have excelled in Noble Prize winning and such acedaemic stuff

Why?

I cannot offer an answer.

But it is a bald bare-assed fact, however unpalatable to some.

MTH

You might not be able to fathom an answer but I can..

Early Islam wasn't what it is today, its been stiffed by hardliners over the years.. at one time collecting books was seen as the mark of a good scholar..   Later Islamic leaders went so far as to burn any books if it hadn't anything to do with Islam. Luckily by then the old works had found their way into Europe through Spain..

The Rabbinical European Jews went the opposite direction, from hardline isolationists to people wanting to mix with the rest of society.

They began to open schools teaching science and other disciplines..  mostly because they were barred from christian schools or universities..

Its no surprise the Jews excelled given they have a higher IQ in the population then we do..   something to do with Rabbis who were generally pretty bright getting all the women..   and doin most of the breeding.

So it isn't a mystery. Jews wanted to learn, Muslims didn't..

Oh, and the Jews aren't a semetic people, by and large they are of European decent..  converts to the faith more than semetic immigrants..

You might say they're what Hitler wanted, a European super race..

It was pure chance that you were not born as a girl in Somalia about to have your clitoris cut off. Try to put yourself in other people's shoes from time to time.

My parents are British. So it's not really surprising that I was born in Britain....

300 years ago we used to burn witches. Until about 50 years ago we used to send homosexuals to prison. If parents in Somalia want to cut bits off their daughters it's just not our concern. We're not the world's social worker/ policeman. We should stop interfering in other countries.

You've got a colonial mindset. You think we should go back to the 19th century and bring civilisation to those barbarians!

Having also done a bit of research the top 100 universities in the Middle East are all ranked within the top 20% of universities globally. Not bad eh!

You peaked my interest so I also did a bit of research....

It sounds impressive until you find that no.1 Middle Eastern university ranks 145 in the world. No.2 - 207th No. 10 - 572nd and so on and so forth.

Factoring in the sheer number of universities provided by even quite small nations it is unsurprising that the top 100 across an entire continent is in the top 20%. UK is tiny and we have 3 in the top 100 which is probably the top 1%.

Frankly it's a terrible statistic that at a glance sounds impressive but upon close evaluation entirely disproves the argument you're trying to make.
