I knew I shouldn't have started. 

No I'm not saying it's to stop illegal working, its the government saying that. 

It is part of the government's strategy to stop or slow down illegal migration, it isn't a stand alone strategy. Start with making it harder for people to get employment and the uk is not a good place to go to for those who want to exploit the system, on top of that I'm sure that the laws around employers who have illegal workers will be tightened. This will have a knock on effect meaning less opportunity for criminal activities such as tax evasion and money laundering and human trafficking.

I’m trying to understand how it will do anything different than the NI number and anti fraud checks already in place. At best it’s a red herring to make it look like something’s being done, at worst it’s another way of mandating something which will later be exploited (legislation/law already in place will make it easier to impose future control/restrictions.

If you are really interested  in stopping the gubmint from controlling and monitoring your life then it’s not id cards you need to worry about, they de facto exist anyway, it’s cash.

 

Use it whenever possible, make sure shops realise they need to keep taking it oryou will go to ones that do.

 

Without cash they can track you and shut you down remotely at the press of a button for wrongthink.

“How will it work” that’s not a barrier or an incorrect statement it’s called a question !!. Admittedly I know you and a couple of others tend to struggle big time when asked such inconsiderate things. 
Anyway it looks like you are genuinely “ that naive”  if you think digital identity will do anything for illegal immigration. Quite surprising seeing as you claim to be an FAC holder, anyone who has spent years jumping through the ever moving hoops will know fine well in 

any cases the only ones effected by onerous regulations are the law abiding citizens whom already play by the rules.

I do Mick at every opportunity , I’ve stopped using several venues who are card only. Kids and Apple Pay are the ones who need convincing. I try every day with my bunch.

Quick, proper question, in the UK which verifiable ID is mandated?

A passport: My choice to have one or not

A drivers license: My choice to have one or not, likewise my choice to upgrade to a photo card

NI Card: Not a form of ID in the sense being talked about - one NI Card can be used by multiple people

Travel pass (bus, train...): My choice to have one or not

Smart phone: My choice to have one or not

...

 

I could go on. None of the above are mandated, in the forum we might or might not all have one or more of the above.
