The stated aim of the digital identity card is to help deal with the illegal immigration issue.
Do you think it will succeed.

APPLE.NEWS

Digital ID cards are expected to be announced by Keir Starmer as early as Friday, in the...

What exactly are you afraid of?

I don't think they're necessary at all. I have no problem if they are introduced though. My only gripe is - why the kfc do they have to be smartphone based? What's wrong with a nice little card that you can slip into your wallet? Like the driving licence.

Keir is probably drawing up a cushy little contract with Palentir as we speak.

OK easier to access and get better care. All of your medical history can be accessed quickly when you need treatment. As it is now its garbage. Digital ID will help with that.

What do you think the downsides of digital ID are?

As far as I can tell here the objections are that they are something we don't have, something new. No practical downsides mentioned yet.

In France (closest example) and many other place you don't need to carry them - much the same that you don't need to carry a drives license to drive a car, but if you need to prove who you are you can grab the card and prove it. Digital just means, like the drivers licenses the authorities will have a database they can refer to. End of paper bills and the old "2 forms of ID, a recent utility bill" is tricker - so some digital system will be needed I think, so why not.

Anyway, waiting for practical downsides apart from not liking anything new.

Personally, I think that given the data-driven world we live in, the likelyhood of ID cards being integrated with everyday tasks is a real, and worrying prospect. Do really want to refused a burger because your ID says you obese?

Not something that should be encouraged.

It'll take some civil servant 5-10 minutes to leave it on a laptop in the back of a taxi. Then god knows.

The big question is, do they combine the asda reward card and the tesco clubcard into one entity though?

If not then im out.

Serious question as ive not looked into al this id card stuff, well I have in the sense that from what ive heard it will make medical care better but thats as much as I know. But what are the downsides to it all?

Terrible idea. Buy a smartwatch if you want tech to tell you off for living your life.

I got one, it comfirmed everything my GP said was happening, so I gave it away and got a new doctor.

The last thing we need in society is to be handing more and more of our data to big technology firms.

(He says while freely posting on a site that likely uses AWS)...

The version and its application issued initially will be very different to the version 5-10 years down the line. Combine it with everything else including the now frequently mooted pay per mile system ( a horrific idea) and you have a system the Chinese will envy. I saw enough from the same players who want and support this now during g the Covid farce to know it’s wrong. Labour should have put it in the manifesto if they wanted to implement it.

Agreed.

Reform seem to be liking the idea of ID cards, from what I've read.

Green Party/left coalition, for the win.

Yeah I saw a survey showing reform voters in support.
Create a problem offer a solution. Blair will be overjoyed.
