the world would have been better off if the allies hadn't accepted german surrender in 1918 and instead waded right in and carved it up, a military historian would know why, but as a layman, I can't understand why when a country wages warfare and is defeated they don't just lose everything - so the whole country name is deleted and the geography absorbed by the victors

I don't really see what empire has to do with defeating the nazi's.

 

Empire building is what Hitler and his cronies were engaged in.

 

The best defense against invading forces is to have good strong relationships with as much of the world as possible.

 

Isolating ourselves is clearly moving in the opposite direction.
