Tattoos in the workplace

I'm not that bothered by Tattoo's myself, but I might be concerned as an employer as to customer perception? If it came down to a choice between two equally qualified people at interview and one had facial tattoo's, I would probably choose the one without. I wouldn't declare why or openly discriminate which I'm guessing happens all too often.

What about facial piercings though??!! I must admit they freak me out somewhat!

Sure, my missus and daughter have earrings which is nothing new. But what about tongue piercings or those horrific ear stretchers which invariably get ripped out, lip piercings which get infected? That just seems like attention seeking or 'self harm' to me.

Makes me cringe and I definitely would not entertain.

Beards or stubble are very fashionable and I often do both.

Each to their own, but those considering tattoo's or piercings should seriously consider the implications of employment restriction.

I think it is fairly well realised that many of the 'great unwashed' sector of society that choose benefits as a career path also choose facial tattoos and piercings as they know full well it will exclude them from employment at the numerous interviews that they are required to attend to maintain job seekers allowance. Sad but true!

As I said previously, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression, and first impression counts for a massive amount of most decisions.

Your life, your choice.

Live it - but be aware of the consequences.

Whether it's right or wrong is another debate, but a significant proportion of society is judgemental. I would argue that having tattoos anywhere you can't cover up is perhaps a little short sighted, especially if you are in any kind of service industry.

my skin, as pure as the driven snow, cant understand why anyone would want to have it done, if you like the design - art of it, commission an artist to paint a picture of it for yourself, or is it away of bringing attention to yourself,

Seeing tattoos these days always reminds me of years ago of those skinny teenagers with tattoos riding on the back of bumper cars at fairgrounds with a roll up in their mouth.:001_smile:

I'd rather be inked up and non-judgemental then have no tattoos and be critical of others. A good personality & attitude is surly most important and if you still get judged on the tattoos then that's the employers loss IMO . I'm pretty covered now and the vast majority of comments I receive are positive

You will always be judged on how you look. That's part of being human.
