What causes the bar to do this

Sprocket nosed bars are not really up to a lot of carving with the tip, especially with the narrower guages on a little 150.

Get a solid nosed bar from RobD at sugihara, then run the chain SLIGHTLY slacker than you would on a sprocket nose. Too loose and it will slap and cause the same/similar problem. HIH

I may be wrong (often am) but isn't it advised to flip the bar after every day's work (or thereabouts)? cheers, steve

Nah. There are weeks going by without turning. Just do it regularly.

Thanks, normally flip the bar after each clean and sharpen. Did notice roller was seized lat week with sawdust so gave it a good clean n oil to get it running free.

I'd have to agree with Darrin, damage/wear like that don't happen overnight.

Like others have said, running a slack chain causes 'chain slap' and the nose on that bar has been slapped 100%.

Don't agree with most of the comments.......it's just the price you pay for having a small tip on a bar is that that it will wear very fast.. I would say a solid tip wears even faster on a carving bar than one with a sprocket as well, I've ran both genuine Stihl carving and sprocket on 150 the solid rate of wear was frightening! So took it off , it also sapped power.
