Seems to me to be a fine line between oil mixture ratio/ type of oil/ carb tuning. I am no expert but I would hazard a guess that provided the oil mix ratio is 'sensible' the most critical of these factors would be the carb settings. I have always set the carb as stated in the Stihl manual ie number of turns. I came across this article the other day re setting the carb using a tacho (complete with sound effects) which has got me thinking maybe this is the way to go. Grateful for thoughts on this and any tacho recommendations.

As far as i can see on stihl website they are Jaso-FB !

Nope:

HP Super two-stroke engine oil - Top performance engine oil for two-stroke or 4-Mix engines

Bizarrely HP Ultra is shown as FB; can't be right. There will be FC rated oils better than FD; or rather the maker hasn't been bothered to go for FD certification although the product would more than satisfy it. Echo exceeds FD; so does RL but is FC rated; probably lacking FD additives as it does better with the ultimate basestock.

I hope I never bump into him in the pub and end up talking about 2 stroke!

Seriously he does know his stuff . He studied it and worked in it for many years . I was not taking the piss just saluting him . Its why I asked him to " sort it out " in a previous post . Nothing like knowing your subject but keeping it to your self unless asked .

Easy bud! I know he knows what he's on about!

I only ever get so read so far though before my head hurts.

It's easier for me to just accept that TCD knows his subject, and buy RL so I can feel good about my saws :)
