Sycamore firewood

Good thinking roys. I did just throw it on the ground on top of some sawdust for testing as I couldn't be bothered to get the chopping log out. I'll try it again tomorrow.

I use an X27 on sycamore for my own use when I can't be bothered to set the splitter up and it goes through no problem at all

Odd, in my opinion sycamore is the easiest wood to split.

 

Sycamore is probably the easiest to split in my opinion. Unless full of knots ...

OK tried again today on the chopping log and it did split Ok but the log was more twisted than it looked.

That's funny . I just tried saying it in a Frank Spencer accent it and it works Jessica . Seriously I have always considered syc to be te least labor intensive wood going . Seasons quickly and splits lemon squeezy

Sycamore usually splits very easy but I had some very Knarly rings in the yard last year from a big butt and they were a nightmare with a 30 ton splitter, every bit of the grain was twisted and I was constantly getting the blade stuck in them and having to hit them with a maul just to get them off the blade, this was only the butt and mainly where big side arms have been the rest of the tree split easy

We have quite a lot of sycamore and it can vary. Dry and straight is a doddle but green and gnarly the X27 just bounces off and hardly leaves a dent let alone becoming stuck.
