Felling on a small slope…

Question

I have been asked to drop a few trees for a friend in Wales. The trees are at the top of a bank. There is a farmers fence on t'other side at top.

I was going to spike and chog each one , but was also considering dropping each tree down the slope albeit in a kind of angled across / rolling down the slope way. Potentially they could roll towards the building.

Another way would be to take the fence rails out and fell towards the field but , as yet , we don't know who owns it…

I am undecided , so turn to the people who have more knowledge than myself…

All advice welcome…

I am doing this job solo… ( carefully )

depends on your felling skill !!!!! i'm personally not that good i just don't fell that much i do highway pruning or have to dismantle when taking trees out

because of my skill set i would climb and knock the top off less chance of damage for me

I'm the oppisate, fairly average climber but confident feller. Spent a lot of time in commercail softwoods, generally the hinge will hold on softwoods esp that size so don't have to worry about it tearing and spinning towards house the way hardwoods often do

I far prefer to fell trees than climb them and just use winches if needed to aid direction or usually take the wieght off a leaming tree (so at 90 to felling direction) and use my wedges

Be a pain climbing up those trees snedding as u go as so many branches and possibly change if u topped them out if top lands tip first could bounce towards house.

But all depends on where ur skills/experience is.

Be a lot quickier if u can fell them out, but only if u know wot ur doing and are confident.

PS Prob shouldnae say this but not a lot of wieght in thoose trees (or atleast looks that way from photo) u'd have to get something severly wrong for them to hit house and doubt they'd do much damage, bit more forgiving than hardwoods

First stage completed. Southern end now clear of trees.Sunshine now warming the house. On arrival the house seemed to have moved nearer to the trees !

Mixed bag of work with climbing , topping , chogging , straight felling and rope assisted felling , etc , etc. Had to be careful not to hit the satellite dishes.

Busy couple of days , did everything by myself (carefully), including the brash dragging , so well knackered !

Beautiful weather was a bonus… and I didn't damage the fence.

I have just done the same sort of job.f4a57701995321bb0262d1b62366096e.jpg

I cleared the stem up as high as wanted to then felled the top.

Nothing to out of the ordinary but I was able to sort of make a groove in the brash so when I felled the standing stems they would just sit nicely in the groove.

You could of placed all the brash as so it would of acted as a stop so the stems wouldn't roll down the bank.

Looks like you have a nice veiw from the office window!
