Chain sharpening

I sharpen by hand. The only thing I have against electric grinders is when someone cuts too fast and heat hardens the chain. Nearly impossible to file by hand after that. If you used them carefully I could see them being a good tool especially if you hit a nail or wire. When ever my chains have been ground they are completely dull and i have to give them a tickle by hand.

I have seen a grinder type tool for sale, damn if I can remember where it was though. You put the chain on this sharpening machine and it would rotate the chain forward for you as it went. The grinder part would come down and hit the tooth, then when the grinder went back up the chain would automatically be fed forward to the next tooth.

I can't say if it was any good, or maybe it's one of those you buy and then kick yourself for falling for it ? It did look like a really neat set up when I saw it.

I imagine someone in here has seen it or knows who sells them

I think Clarkes sell them and have put up a clip of them working on here. Click there link and have a word with them.

Rob, are yours the bench mounted mobels? and what do you flog em for?

any chance of a pic on here mate.

Mine are small 12volt jobbies. Handheld one, and the precision one. On the precision one you can set the angle, lead in angle and it gets all the teeth identical length.

I find them brilliant but some don't seem to get on with them.... I'll put some vids up in a few weeks when I'm back my sponsered sub forum.

Small one is £29-00 and the precision one £49-00 all + vat but you get a 10% discount.
