What would you look for in a groundie?

It didn't start like that...

 

No but if people read between the lines a few pages back you can see what people want from a member of staff, its nothing un reasonable.

 

Some folk come to work and want paying at end of week weather its gone good bad or ugly.

 

People need to earn the money

I have gone through 3 this week! 1 turned up 15 mins late for interview, 1 decided that stood round the side of the van on the phone watching me kill myself moving log was best, and the other stood on the pavement covered in chip & twigs with the blower shovel & brush at his feet for 15 mins whilst I was on the blower to a client before I had to tell him to clear up! Wtf is wrong with folk? First impressions count for everything when your wanting work. Work hard, leave ur fags and phone alone till snap time, use your common sense and don't wait to be told what to do, have a laugh get paid go home! Folk don't wanna work at all!!;

 

The firm I subbed to up until last September went through 14 staff in the two years I was there, when I left I was the only one there from when I started, 7 sacked and 7 quit including 4 climbers so it's not just groundie who cause the problems ;)

And rightly so, if its gone bad that's the bosses look out, job gone wrong, your problem, staff under performing, your problem.

 

Got things on song, that's the bosses function.

True, it didn't.

Threads develop, maybe we should twist this round.

What can bosses do to help new groundies who are normally young and very green.

1: Don't imagine that they know right off the bat exactly what they should be doing.

2: Training, even for a few minutes before the job starts, we're always under pressure to finish a job in a given time period so we tend to get out the van and get straight to it without an explanation of what's going to happen.

3: Try not to shout at them too much, it creates a vicious circle of negativity.

4: Give them a little bit of respite, even if it's just the simple pleasure of using the blower for a while.

 

Before anyone who's ever worked with me points out I'm guilty of doing/not doing all these things.....I know.

Sorry i should have elaborates more but didnt have time.

 

I meant as in that people need to work and pull their weight. If a jobs for 2 for a day and ones not pulling their weight on phone etc all theyve done is come to clock in clock out.

 

Yes it is the bosses problem if things dont go to plan or on timescale etc but the staff can be a variable in this situation.

 

Just be willing to work, learn and have fun thats all id want :thumbup1:
