Why is there a breed of stubborn "real men" climbers out there, Prussic are horrible, fact. Yes you can do it, yes there cheap, yes it's less gear, and yes you should know how to do it if your stuck, but people wouldn't invent "shiny" things to make us slower or crapper. And for people who say "I can get the tree down faster than any other climber ever, in the history of climbers on this planet with my Prussic, grow up, your elbows will fall off and you won't be climbing very fast for long. "Drops the mic" I'm finished lol

Exactly.

How many of you ride a Penny Farthing to work?

I am in my 50's and still climb ( not full time , but did for a long time ) and always used prussik or blake hitch and have no problems at all , think they are great , simple and beautiful ( just like myself ! ) It is rare to have to haul up 50 ft in one go ! if say after lunch I had a long haul , I would use a ladder and or get groundie to help , I have used a pair of jumars/cloggers on static rope quite a bit , and once was pulled up by a pick up on the lowering rope ..(.ahem !) ... yes it is hard work but taken in context to the rest of usual daily efforts , lifting wood , dragging brash , digging , stump grinding , starting big saws , man handling chippers , splitting logs , working on steep ground etc etc , it is not so bad !

yep i'm stihl in the dark ages and use prussiks all the time, 1 on me main line and 1 on either me steel core flip line or short'ish side strop. I did buy a hitch climber setup at the APF last year and it's still in the packaging ! I had a play on a Lockjack (i tink) and a pulley saver and i struggled with the odd feeling of not having enuf friction. Even when i climb with a prussik and use a cambium saver the lack of friction seems to make my prussik lose it's bite on the line and this disconcerts me. Long vertical hauls kill me but for day to day climbing i'm ok on a prussik, but i need to learn the more efficient ways.

all these fancy climbing systems are all well and good but just because some1 climbs on a zigzag , hitchclimber etc that dosn't mean they are a better climber.

I know guys who are in there 40's and 50's who are very good climbers , they have no fancy stuff , just a simple blowline&prussik and wire core strop with a prussik as the adjuster and thats it , very simple and it just goes to show you don't need to spend loads of money and be all kitted up to be good and get the job done safely and productively.

less gear less to think about and thats what i like personally.

i have no problem with news systems and i dont have ago at anybody for what they climb on because its all personal preference at the end of the day , every bit of kit suits some1 different.
