How Many Days Holiday Do You Take?

Throughout most of my working life I've been on a salary. Over the last year I've been self employed.

Is it just me, or when you're self employed are you really reluctant to take holidays? I cant help thinking if I take a week off it costs me double as I don't earn and have to shell out for a holiday.

I'm the same thinking that as the daily overheads are still there if I'm working or on holiday but now I always take two weeks off under orders from swmbo as it takes 4 days for me to stop being a wound up soab and then it's just odd days for long weekends but even when I'm off I'm still sort-of working with emails or phonecalls and if the lads are working checking in everything is OK.

Think we need away from work time and just have to build that cost into the days we do.

Am I alone in thinking that being self employed or a boss entitles you to take breaks as and when which makes a holiday less of a priority. I just grab time between gluts of work and do what I want which suits my tiny mind,I dont think I could bear to be somewhere for a set two week period pretending not to be bored witless.

Self employed here and I have as many days off as I can . Im 44 yrs old and worked hard all my life . Two grown lads at home 19 and 14 so me and my lady escape once a month for two nights whether it be up the road in a travel lodge or living it up in London . Always have at least 10 nights abroad in the sun once a year ....its good for your bones . Im just starting to become more relaxed with regards work . When I think back to the hours I did week after week it was crazy 60 / 72 hrs was not unheard of ? Talk about being stressed out . Hey I was young and could cope now my bones will not take it . Im on site for 9 am Mon / Friday and really want to be gone 3 pm if I can . The only problem is I always have to play catch up on Saturday morning
