I see it is stone mastic asphalt but what does that mean?

There's a bloke local to me who can lay it thinner than a Fag paper!

60mm of Base with 40mm of SMA would be my choice.

Our yard has some decent concrete, some collapsed concrete and some gravel on soil. EA want us to make it all impervious, so I'm guessing a 6" sub base for the gravelled area then the 60mm of base (tarmac?) and similar over the collapse concrete but just 40mm sma over the concrete?

2 inch beach stone so its not got sharp edges, will take a couple of months to bed in but once its rolled in well it doesn't move what ever you run on it and doesn't wash out with heavy rain

I'd like to sort my driveway

 

well, my wife would like me to sort our driveway

 

with vehicles parking and turning on it with nobbly tires I'm picturing tarmac being ripped up pretty quickly, although its probably the quickest/easiest solution - especially as I don't want the driveway out of action for too long.

 

its currently compacted stone/dust, which is actually very serviceable but not particularly pretty.

 

any one out there have a similar situation and what have you found to be the best solution?

If its a domestic drive with services running under it I would go for block paving. If at anytime you need to dig it up the paving is easy to reinstate.

I have recently worked for a customer who had a rubber driveway . No not at all like a kiddies play park ...... all springy and the like . It was beige with a speckled pattern . A proper job but did look like tarmac from the roadside .
