another case of mis-information - while the fact that israel should never have been created in the first place (on stolen land), all of it's neighbours now accept it's right to exist, unlike Israel itself who wants to remove all traces of palestine and it's people.

I don't know where you find your information? Syria still disputes the border. Would you feel safe with them nutters on your doorstep. Unless, of course you read tommer9's original post.

The peace treaty with Egypt has worked. But, That part of the world is so unstable, all of its neighbours would combine if they think they could beat Israel. Don't forget, hitler and Stalin once had a non aggression pact

What border are you referring to? It has changed so much over the years...

Yes! But then the Eleven plus got done away with.

My brother was one of the last of that Era.

Of course it was a luxury!

The Eleven plus is still alive and well up here, my son who was top of his class at primary, he did not wish to take the 11+, many of his peers did. He went to the local comprehensive, his peers went to the grammar. He got 7 "A"stars plus other "A"s and a few "B"s. He achieved higher results than any of his peers.

He's done maths, further maths, chemistry and physics at A level and is hoping to study maths at Warwick.

You don't need to go to the grammar school to do well, its down to hard work :001_smile:

I am struggling with a lot of things in life at the moment, but one of the biggest is the overpowering and all pervading view of world politics that the majority of the western world seem to have.

I admire your thinking, wish I could bring myself to care about it much as you do.

The fact is we can't even get 22 men to kick a ball round a field without mass bribery, corruption, crime and scandal.

The only border I mention is the Syrian border. So, naturally, im talking about that. Especially the Golan heights. An area seized by Israel after the 6 day war. Naturally, the Syrians want it back. Israel would have reluctantly offered it back in return for a peace agreement. Something which the Syrians would not agree to. The heights were used by Syria to shell Israel from the 1940's to the 1960's due to its strategic position.

I do think Israel "stole" Palestine from the Palestinians. However Israel seems to be a beacon for democracy and respect for minorities in the region. Something like 17% of Israelis are Muslim...

If Israel was given back to the Palestinians what are the chances it would descend into another failed Middle Eastern country?

Having had to work there on and off for 8 years I can tell you now that Israel is anything but a "beacon for democracy and respect". It might be if your jewish.

IMO it is as bad, if not worse than South Africa was during apartheid, the western media generally works in its favor when it should be calling for strong sanctions like it did with SA. Double standards abound. Go and work there for a period, get first hand experience, then make an informed judgement.

Tell us more about how bad it is we may have more understanding then
