Wasps where have they gone ?

Just like there were no acorns last year. Millions the year before, none where we were this year. Nature eh!

Cool early July we have our local music festival on and boy is there a massive selection of beer and cider to be consumed Shall I warn the organizers to up the order

I went in to the pet shop earlier and asked the man in there if they sold Wasps. No mate we don't sell wasps he said. Oh well, he had some in the window last summer.

Don't care where they are, aslong as they stay there.....pointless animals!

 

I used to declare war against them until I heard a documentary on them on the radio. A gentleman was singing their praises for all the good work they do through out the year, nailing flies, cleaning up debris and detritus around the garden and much more. All they want is a little sweetness at the end of the year to reward themselves for all they have done. Hence the times you really notice the in the Autumn when they mob you for a sip of beer or a bit of jam.

 

Hornets are much more benign. They look very intimidating but it takes a lot to make them angry. Their sting is much the same as a wasp but they do make a physical slash with their ovipositor to make the wound look worse.

I saw a wasp on Sunday, it was studying a brick wall very closely. The longer they stay away the better as I have a phobia. When I get them round me I look like I'm boxing the invisible man I have been told.

They are actually very clever buggers.

My brother and I Watched one doing the rounds of the spider webs and actually twanging the Web to make them come out so it could snatch them.

I had a lot of wasps in the garden in the spring and at first thought there was going to be an explosion of them later when the weather warmed up. But I have not seen one for a good few weeks now, so long may it continue. Some of them were obviously overwintering queens searching out new nest sites. I have not seen any activity of building anywhere. I would have normally seen a few hornets by now as well while out fishing, but I have not seen one yet. For some reason I don't mine them but i hate wasps:sneaky2:
