One of my employees has just broken his ankle at home at the weekend. He's probably going to be off for quite a while. He has got personal injury insurance.

 

As far as being an employee what's the score with normal entitlements in this situation?

Ouch in more ways than one.

 

If they are a genuine employee and "qualify" then its statutory sick pay (SSP) at £88.45/week (this is the minimum) for up to 28 weeks.

 

You can pay them more if you wish

Yes, thats right... expect to lose him for at least 6 weeks.... :stickyman:

new rules regarding ssp means it cannot be claimed back now so for small employers it's a real drain on resources. paying ssp on top of higher costs means employing staff can be too

costly than having subbies
