Employee Injury outside of work

One of my employees has just broken his ankle at home at the weekend. He's probably going to be off for quite a while. He has got personal injury insurance.

 

As far as being an employee what's the score with normal entitlements in this situation?

If they are a genuine employee and "qualify" then its statutory sick pay (SSP) at £88.45/week (this is the minimum) for up to 28 weeks.

Doesn't the employer claim back the SSP from the government?

The employer pays SSP then claims it back from the government.

new rules regarding ssp means it cannot be claimed back now so for small employers it's a real drain on resources. paying ssp on top of higher costs means employing staff can be too

costly than having subbies
