Lol I thought that! I charge a grounds maintenance man out with a lawn mower at 25 an hour that's for commercial on the same site no travelling!

I knew of a few lads doing stupid prices with jensens , the chippers were stolen to make it worse they used a dealer down south who new they were stolen to get parts to keep the machines going , you can't really compete with that when your running a straight business.

Igo out chipping but not all the time because as said above to be viable you need to be charging 200 / 250 a day. Witch you get but not all the time basically its a sideline just like the log sales etc

Just a thought, if you really are chipping all day with a TW150 or similar you could get through north of 40 litres of diesel.

Theirs 40 quid plus just in diesel before wear and tear etc etc. Before what you want to take home and other expenses .

I was thinking that. How can you run machines on £20 hour and take a wage too?? £160 for an 8 hour day, take off fuel, insurance, wear and tear , tax then you really are working for a pittance. You would be better working at Asda, go in do what you have to and go home paid. No hassle. I hear of what some lads charge and they do it to get the work??????

It's NOT the wage!

 

The wage is what you draw after all your costs.

 

There are legions of people in this industry who look at costing a job by adding wage+fuel to make up a day rate.

 

They forget real time depreciation, general and longer term maintenance costs, fixed costs such as insurances and that dirty word PROFIT!

 

Why do guys charge out a groundy at what they pay him?

 

Why not charge out with a margin on top?

 

£80 for your brash rat but £160 to the client.

Just been redesigning my website and put an offer on there of £250 for operator and chipper for the day with one load taken, not overly fussed if do this kind of job but that's gotta be the minimum?

You should not put a price on your website, too many variables that can alter the price like, drag, dog mess, type of brash etc. you will find that people will always expect £250. You are far better asking people to call for prices.

Perhaps, I'm not sure I want the work tbh without seeing what I'm doing first was thinking more along the lines of giving people a figure they can work from so not to expect to pay silly low prices and not waste mine of their time, I'll alter it to "from £250" or think of something else to offer
