Hitch climber with murderous intentions?

Recommended Posts

Twist the legs to stiffen them before you put the eyes in the biner. As others have said use the middle hole and try a longer length of cord. Experiment with some different knots. Have fun:thumbup:

Never thought of that one! Will have to try it.

I use a smaller carabiner so the friction hitch doesn't get stuck in.

Same issues here when I first started using mine. I automatically set my hitch now as I tend slack almost without thinking..

Perhaps have a spell using a michoacan eye tie hitch while you get used to the set up. (I still prefer this hitch over the VT, personally)

Again like the others have said by making slight alterations to the length and type of hitch/hitchcord will help you overcome this. Try adding another wrap or braid, or putting twists in the cord which can alter its characteristics as well.

Practicing these things in a low wide tree will help you gain confidence in your new set up.

Hope this helps.

Your VT legs are too long to the Hiker should be snug up under VT thereby lifting Krab up and clear of VT. Also i think your Prussic chord looks a bit close to rope thickness (but not clear, could be wrong there). And finally i found the VT a nuisance with Hiker set up - when set correctly it starts smooth then gradually binds up - whereas the Knut is brilliant with Hitch Hiker.

Good tip with Hitch Hiker - instead of clipping harness/bridge direct to bottom Hiker hole through legs - introduce a carefully measured length lanyard (homemade) from Hiker to harness - this way you pull from underneath the Hiker and everything self-tends! Making sure you can still release friction hitch from above :lol::lol:

Hi Mike, I get the impression you are confusing the hitchclimber with the hitch hiker :)
