  1. The video won't load for me but I believe I have spoken to this chap online; yes, he's not dead! His tied his knot wrong and it untied itself as he worked his way up the tree. He made a full recovery and is now a fitness model I believe.
  2. Surely it's no less improbable than drawing any other two numbers?
  3. Great job, Steve. Thanks for all of the work that you put into running both ArbTalk and this raffle, which is for such a great cause. It does not go unnoticed! Dan
  4. Go to the landowner, does he stand to profit? Is there any planning applications at present?
  5. Very funny indeed! However, that's not Izzard's Twitter account.
  6. Sean, I appreciate it's been a while on this thread but I've not been too active on AT for the last year. How are you doing these days? Dan
  7. Sorry to read about your troubles, Marc! I've not much to add but would echo earlier replies in the thread. Hire a lawyer who specialises in disputes of this nature and attempt to recover all lost monies plus compensation for the distress caused. Sounds like they're taking advantage of your good nature, I think most others would have burned this bridge a long time ago. Cheers Dan
  8. No one is threatening you. It was clear before the referendum that freedom of movement and unrestricted access to the single market go hand in hand. It was repeated ad nauseam. The EU is not going to change their position, why would they? Anyone who thinks they need us more than we need them is living in dream land.
  9. I still maintain my position that Brexit is not going to happen. Almost all MPs are pro-Remain. What we're seeing now is a stare-off between MPs as to who breaks first. No one wants to be the one to say "**** leaving" but I think someone will in the not too distant future.
  10. Those kinds of feminists are such a minority I don't really think they're worth him getting so triggered over personally.
  11. Gonna be interesting to see him have to cover for Trump over the next four years.
  12. Looks that way, doesn't it. He must be doing quite well for himself from his YouTube channel.
  13. No chance. Most non-occupational schemes don't cover regular suicide let alone someone who straps a bomb to themselves.
  14. Oh Christ, I met that guy once. Truly unbearable.
  15. Understatement of the century, there! I remember seeing one of him going off about how the "new world order" is keeping the "extended lifespan medicine" from us. He was quite emotional about the whole thing, I'm not sure he's all there, personally.
  16. ..It's for Mecca which is a holy site reserved for Muslims in Islam. People of other religions are allowed to visit but not actually go in. Not sure what reaction you were hoping for here.
  17. You're right, anyone is allowed a view, however, with respect, mine and your views are largely irrelevant, unless you're a climate scientist that is. Science doesn't work on opinion. Global temperature has been going up and down for millennia, however, it's the rate of change of temperature that is indisputable. If you check out that (I think NASA has some good resources on their site) you'll see what I mean. Rate of chance of temperature starts to increase dramatically (way way faster than the Earth's natural ups and downs, something completely unprecedented) as soon as humans started pumping mass amounts of CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The chances of this being a coincidence are basically nought.
  18. Yep - the consensus is overwhelming. Depending on where you look it's somewhere between 80 and 95% of academics, people who've devoted their lives to studying climate, believe the main contributing factor to temperature raise is human activity, be that through animal agriculture or general pollution. Trees aren't actually that much of a biggie, there's trillions left. Sure, it doesn't help but, for the most part, their carbon neutral.
  19. Christ, it's pretty embarrassing to see climate change deniers here on ArbTalk, the evidence for CC being caused by human activity is overwhelming!
  20. I think Clinton but I'm not really sure as it all the votes get filtered through the Electoral College meaning it's not a straight "who got more votes" election, however, I do think it will be close. I think Trump voters will be more determined to vote and I think some of the younger progressive types will just stay home rather than vote for Clinton meaning that Trump is far from out. I'm just glad it's going to be over soon.
  21. I you were looking to stay abroad for the foreseeable then consider the healthcare available. The US doesn't have an NHS so if you get ill or injured and do not have insurance you'll probably be bankrupted if you have treatment over there... That's what I liked about working in Aus, it's just like home except the weather is better, the wages are higher and (most of) the people are nicer!
  22. As others said it depends on the situation surely. If it was a something like a death or car crash then I'd for sure say that you were a heartless bar steward for considering cost before just dropping everything, getting in the car and getting them to the hospital! If the issue was something like "my girlfriend's car broke" down i.e. not life or death then I'd let them go the first time no questions asked and trust their judgement, I'd probably still pay them for the day too if they were on the books. If it started getting regular and the excuses kept getting more desperate or I thought they were just making stuff up I'd probably give 'em notice and look for someone more reliable. Cheers, Dan
  23. I started off with the Treehog seated harness. I don't really rate it as I always seemed to slip out of and it was mega-bulky too. That being said it's well made and well priced. I switched to a leg loops Butterfly which I much prefer.
