Got stopped a few weeks back by an unmarked car, they checked the chipper wasn't stolen and told me off as the cable had broken (literally happened the day before) then the police officer informed me that I wasn't allowed to tow a chipper behind a transit having a post 97 licence, asked him to prove he was right as I knew he had no idea what he was on about, which he duly tried to, and backtracked when checked the laws. never admit anything at the roadside, never produce any documentation, never sign anything. they have to prove an offence has been comitted, you dont have to prove your innocence, so why help them, furthermore you do not have to provide any personall information unless you are detained or charged.......mr piggy isNOT a policeman any more, he/she is a police officer and works for a profit making corporate orginisation, the days of them being public sevants and being there to help you have long gone

From what I've seen on TV....

If you get stopped by the police then you should -

Jump out of your vehicle gesticulating violently and accuse them of picking on you because of your race/religion/clothes/hair/age/vehicle.

You should swear a lot, tell them to go catch some REAL criminals, stuff your drugs into your undies.

If it gets real bad take a swing at them.

In the end they will not press charges due to insufficient evidence.

Oh happy days

Few years ago me and a mate went to buy a trailer, I needed one for weekend use he wanted to fetch building supplies in a week day. Anyways we went to look at this trailer I found on fleabay turns out to be a pile of shite so I said not what I'm looking for, my mate says will you tow it home for me if I buy it. No probs so he goes to pay the guy, in the meantime it starts raining and I mean raining coming down in stair rods me no coat just t shirt, so guy and my mate hitches trailer up we check lights and away home.

Goes over level crossing and I felt trailer not to be there checked mirrors and saw trailer overtaking me, next thing trailer hits flood water and careers into verge on lefthand side of road, I reverse up to it mate takes his rigger boots off as water would of gone over top gets out and re-hitches trailer drag it out of flood and gets out to check, they'd connected the breakaway cable to the chain from top of pin to r clip,(dual type hitch) and the chain had snapped before brakes come on.

Luckily there was nothing coming other way it was the A19.

Only thing the trailer didn't do correctly, it didn't signal that it was pulling in again lol

When I look back at it I could of caused a major RTA but as it happens I laugh about it now and always check breakaway cable securely fastened.

On another note, brother in law lent his trailer to someone but they didn't change number plate, got pulled 3 points and £60 for not displaying correct number plate

A few years ago a baby in a pushchair was killed by a trailer that broke away from a towing vehicle. It was in Heage, Derbyshire not far from here and was in the local news, faulty trailer brakes but no cable connected would have the same effect. I have an unbraked small trailer and fitted an arrester cable when this happened. I always check the brake cable is connected on my big trailer as well and my wife reminds me regularly. Not being preachy but it could end in tears for a moment's neglect.

That's the thing about the letter of the law if it ain't wrote daan proper it's bol10cks. Question it! Your brake's were working fine. How many handbrakes do you have? The lever to operate was working and so were your brakes presumably. The cable was fine it just wasn't attached, whether you didn't attach it or someone tried to dettach it who knows it's behind you out of sight.
