That's harsh, as said before he must have good eyesight!! Yea you should have had it on but such an easy thing not to do, should have warned you and told you off and you do not deserve a fine.

As john p suggests I guess that the breakaway cable properly clipped on forms part of the braking system so if it's not clipped the system is defective.

Naughty boy, easy mistake to make, move on. Learn from this.

Whats the difference in not connecting it and wrapping it around something that will just get pulled off in the event of seperation? Is there a pre determined place to attatch cables?

It appears that most police and/or Vosa forces around the country are focusing more on vans and trailers as they are probably more likely to have "potential offences" than lorries, M4 Newport tonight seemed to have been a van special on the weighbridge. Just remember that the breakaway cable must be attached to the towbar frame and not the ball ( in case ball snaps) otherwise that is a potential fine/points

Its a poor do when you get a tosser of a plod, but there are plenty of good ones out there, few years ago we were working a fair way from home, so set off home in the light but was dark before we got home. About 5 miles from home I hear the police siren and see blue lights in my mirror, pulled over copper stops and jumps out "you've no back lights lad" I go look and the trailer light plug is not in, so I plug it in and one rear light comes on:blushing:, "there you go lads drive careful" and off he drove

How did you go on in the end??

I never took it any further. The thought of a day in court, in London, the money lost, and still getting three points didn't appeal when I'd thought about it.

I paid the sixty quid and took the three points!

So where do I, with a franschised dealer fitted swan neck towbar on the Octavia, attatch the breakaway cable, as there is no fixing point other than the swan neck and towball?

Happen I wrap the cable round a couple of times and clip it to itself, what else can I do, not wishing to interfere with the CE approved integrity of my approved Skoda towbar?
