Insurance without tickets

I admire your style mate. I've been doing this job since 81 and around about 2001 I started to hear rumours of hse cracking down and everyone had to get tickets or they wouldn't be covered in the event of something going wrong. I panicked and went out and got my tickets which was a complete and utter waste of money.

i recently did some work from a cherrypicker over a river and they wanted all the relevant tickets plus the 25mt swimming certificate

there are insurance companies that will cover you without tickets. however if you were to claim and incompetence/ poor work practice was the fault they may not cover you, i assume this would be the case with or without tickets

What I specifically want to avoid is paying for a policy which isn't worth the paper it's written on. I'm sure many insurers would be happy to sell a policy knowing full well they could wriggle out of paying. Luckily, I can read small print.

Your point about not paying out in the case of poor working practices is a good one and I imagine ANY insurance policy will have a clause limiting their liability if you've done something way below industry standard.

Sorry mate, what I'm meaning is, if you have some sort of incident or accident that leads to either a large insurance claim or an HSE investigation your tickets may just cover your ass and you may then feel it was money very well spent.

As above, I'd be happy to argue competence, working standards etc if something went wrong but I specifically want to avoid a policy which would just stick its fingers in its ears and say, "No tickets; no payout."

I'd prefer to stay on topic please but I'll talk about tickets more generally after this thread has run a little longer and hopefully generated the info I'm looking for.

So anybody coming new to this thread, please read the opening post and maybe you can help with that. :)
