There is a local turner who i sell timber to that would go mad for that :001_smile:

Contact lenses then:001_tt2:

You think people who don't need classes wear contact lenses??

My eyes are fine, if I was going to the trouble of planking that butt I'd be hopping for full width usable boards, not bowl blanks. I was simply asking Rover if it had been worth his while and expressing my personal opinion.

Sarcasm hence the smiley.

Not much call for full width 6ft wide oak boards in their full width, they usually get cut down...{Nice to start that way though!}

Certainly isn't joinery timber though!

Its the heart board that might be amazing though? But does anyone want a 6ft wide table?

Ahh well some threads bring a lot out in people anyway...:001_rolleyes:

Still I suspect would have been better as a tree! :lol:

Funny, its long time since I worked as primary sawyer a saw mill, But Id have gone for the heart cut first. Then deduce what to do working outwards....

not all joinery wood has to be dead straight and knotless...

you can make some beautiful furniture from bits like that usually incorporating the natural flaws in to your designs.

mmm best if it is though, defect free, straight grained & quartersawn as well.{ unless some amazingly stable tropical timber..}

Then you don't have problems shutting a fag paper accuracy fitted door next time it poor's down from the heavens for a month...

Just IMHO of course.

But I agree for waney edged furniture , cracks inclusion's etc are all good... {Again IMHO.}

But my question was serious ... is anyone in uk buying 6 ft wide table? & if they are Id guess they would want them 18 ft long at least! {to keep proportions looking good....:sneaky2:

If they are... that's cool... there kitchen or dining room must be a beut!

But if I could house a 6 ft wide table... Id want some amazing plank to do it with!

Sadly such a beauty wouldn't fit in my place...
