When I lived on my own I could eat three good meals a day on £30/week.

Roast chicken one night, chicken sandwiches at work the next day, what was left over went into a curry.

Chilli con carni with rice one night left overs in the freezer and eat with jacket potatoe another day.

Steak once a week, and so on.

There is no need to eat shite.

I smoke too much, drink too much and don't take enough exercise......... It's a good job I eat healthily.:001_smile:

Amazes me that a working bloke can find the time to do that (I've done the same) while some complain they eat badly cos it's difficult! Must be hard to find the time between judge Judy and Jeremy Kyle

I have a family , wife and kids but I do remember those days ( between wives and girl friends ) and life was sooooo simple . I actually lived of the barrels of a gun when Magi was in and interest rates were at 17% ....and I ironed my shirts !

I've never lived alone, but I remember when we were married at first we were proper skint. My Mrs baked all our bread and I got spuds and carrots from the dairy farm next door, they were the big misshaped ones the supermarkets rejected, the cows liked them.

We did our entire weekly shop with £25.

Just nipped to the co op for some bits thought I'd have a quick look, frozen pizza £1.09 2 pizza bases £1.89 plus ingredients to go on them. Yes a bag of rice will last you a week but put meat with it every night and curry paste coconut milk etc and it will cost more than £7 for frozen equivalent 7 times. I shop in bulk frugally and I reckon me the wife and little 1 are about £80-100 a week for everything (big eaters mind) I could easily get 2 weeks out of that at Iceland!!

You can get 1KG of chicken breast from tesco for under £4 pounds and 1KG of rice for under £1 (dry weight)

I reckon that would produce at least 8 portions (wet weight)

That would be 14 portions of brown rice so it gets even cheaper, especially if you add some beans and a bit of mincemeat plus some chilli

Ironed your own shirts!!!

I lived in a trailer (caravan), so no airs and graces, even I paid a woman to do my washing and ironing.

I feel right posh now.
