It’s the same with Hilux towing.

3.5 most places, 3 UK, same vehicle!

Each market/country is different.

The current 2,4d hilux is 3200kg max towing here `in Sweden now, except the top spec which is 3050kg. Single cab and pre 07/2019 cars could be uprated to 3500kg, (with different suspension, brakes and tow bar) but not any more.

The 2,8D will be coming out next year, 3500kg towing for "everywhere else" but according to local Toyota dealer, not guaranteed, may well be down plated when homologised at the docks to please their biggest customer - the mines in the north.

Id guess your 3T towing figure for UK market is due to the fact that most people buy them as an urban run-around, unladen, not towing, so softer rear suspension giving a comfier daily ride sells more vehicles/appeals to more customers than people honestly needing to tow 3,5t trailers.

We should be allowed to shift the 3.5ton limit to 4 or 4.5 in a normal license since vehicles are getting so much heavier with all the extra safety features and emmisions crap but are easier to drive than ever.

Good point as they have changed it for electric vehicles to 4 tonnes IIRC

I was told those Grafters were rated as 5.5 ton by manafacturer and de-rated to 3.5 for Uk

If this is true then even if you are driving illegally at least you know that the truck is made to take the load that you have put on the back rather then driving around in a vehicle not fit for purpose.

The intention is to put smart roads with weighing sensors embedded so that the camera can not only clock you fr speed but yr actual weight also, referenced to the dvla register - instant fines thro yr letter box . Think M1 is next fr that ?  Bloody cash cow. K
