what kind of pruning cut is this?

Hi People

 

Seen this photo the other day and was wondering what cut this guy is making on the tree he's working on?

 

he has removed a branch and instead of cutting back to the collar he is cutting right the way back to the stem .

 

it looks like an old photo judging by the fact that he is wearing no safety gear what so ever so i would guess the 1970s?

 

does anyone recognise this picture and know what type of cut this is?

has a look of a danarm 171, but thats 30yrs before your time on earth

yep, its a danarm 171ss.

I,m still using one in a 18" planking mill.

1971 and still happy, put new crankshaft oil seals in recently and a carb rebuild.
