Up until about 5 years ago here in west wales the only time you ever heard of people getting dipped was at big shows or horse marts etc but since then the authorities hold regular roadside checkpoints even in quite rural areas not just the main A roads. I've been dipped twice in the last 3 years.

I got dipped last year in a new discovery getting off the ferry from southern Ireland. I was running on fumes they poked around so much I thought they were going to hook out the sender unit. They gave up in the end and let me go. One thing worth a mention is when they deliver white and red in the same tanker they purge the line before delivery which mixes a bit of red with a bit of white. For this reason customs allow something like 5% red before they even think about a prosecution.

This must be about right because I used red in an old lorry on the farm for about 2 years just as a dumper. When I put it back on the road I emptied the fuel and stuck a can of white in it to run it down for test, it was stopped by C+E and was ok so that small trace which was the capacity of the filters and pipes is not enough for them to worry about.

We got dipped about 5 years ago in Devon and had a friendly chat with the vosa man after the truck was cleared. I think he said 15% but that was before they became self funding :001_rolleyes: I would imagine points make prizes for them now  I thought best not to mention as things must of changed in 5 years.
