Pricing the Job

To be honest I've seen a few people get into the job with their tickets, and I wouldn't say any of them were competent with a saw.

I doubt you'll ever know how do do something well until you've done it for a while, gained experience, and learned from their mistakes (we all make them)!

The OP was likely looking for a few pointers.

I guess I'm speaking as an employee, who might one day be in the same position as the OP, and you're speaking as an established business owner.

Did you never completely balls up a pricing Mark?

:)

Aye, it probably was a bit harsh with hindsight.

Remember, though, pricing a job is the one chance you get at making any money from it.

S'alright mate. People come on here to ask advice, and someone once told me that there was no such thing as a stupid question, just a stupid answer.

I'm typing this with my arm in a sling because I didn't take good advice on how to ski jump. (And someone told me there was a free pitcher of beer in it for me). We all need advice (and beer)

This is how you calculate your rates.

Work out your overheads for the first year.

Add on whatever you want to earn.

Divide by the number of days you want to work.

That is the amount you need to bring in every day you work.

Plus all the startup kit costs, saws, chipper truck, climbing kit, insurance, the list goes on.

Best of luck.
