I allways use my CZ .22 rimfire with subsonic winchester rounds for foxes , with a bipod and moderator i could shoot up half a dozen a night in the back field at dads farm mostly dispatched with one round , that is what all the keepers use locally when lamping etc , my shotgun is dormant now since i got my FAC.

At the right range in the right hands a 22lr can be a good tool against fox, not the best tool and probably not most folks first choice.

If u know ur rife 50 or possibly 80m is the absolutle limit with subs, if u put hv rounds throu it u will get a bit more range but loose the quietness.

Most keepers/foxers will use a centre fire rifle of some form for fox control althou plenty will still be shot while out rabbiting with the humble 22

All depends on the situation, in an urban setting i'd say 22 is ideal for quietness and close range but needs to be an experience shooter using it.

If u go down the culling route get an expert in esp in an urban environment, no room for error and no one has mentioned ur ground/soil conditions, 22 subsonic's do have a nasty habit of bouncing about at times. Not want u want in an urban setting.

Not a job for an amatuer or cowboy

Hi mate what I was talking about thanks Jon

Just had a read and I personally agree with you Jon. I wouldn't even contemplate using a sub 12ftlb air rifle (which is the legal limit before fac) but a 40ftlb air rifle in the right hands would be more than humane out to 50 yards. Hell there's even a 100ftlb 303 caliber air rifle now, that would do the job without a shadow of a doubt!

A good determined dog fox takes some stopping. I once shot 1 at over 100m it got up and ran off put another shot in it and it sat there lookin at me so put another throu It's chest and there it layed got out of highseat to look at it and it was hit 3 times in hind quarters, lower jaw and in chest. By the way this was with a .243 Win so although a .22 will do the job now and again It's not really big another.
