Top handle saw use on the ground

So, as others have pointed out this is what the industry 'good practice' guidance says and although it is not 'law' you need to think very carefully about the potential consequences of not following such...if something goes wrong. The HSE / insurance companies / clients / AA :001_huh: will refer to published guidance as a benchmark and start their assessment of "what went wrong" from there.

and of course if there are sufficient cases of accidents with these saws the HSE will, again, try and have sales of them stopped.

I was always impressed by the power and get up and go of the saw . just dissapointed by the fragility . This is no longer an issue ...

I've always seen top handles as an open invite to cut and hold cord whilst logging.

I met a lad years ago on my CS38 who was a log merchant, and simply wanted to get his 39 so he could get his hands on one (pre eBay!) to speed up production.

I've never been a fan of this, if the saw doesn't get you RSI in your right elbow will!

I've used my saws, two handed mostly, but one handed has it's place as we all know, at heights up to about 90'.

I think I'll be the judge of whether I can use it safely with two feet planted on the ground, not some suit reeling off accident statistics spiked by dickheads who equate top handle to 'one -handed saw'.

I'm my own boss, luckily I don't have a crew of lads to babysit and assess their common sense, and I feel for those that do.

I will only tolerate my own idleness.

I am very wary nowadays when using a topper on the ground,2 or 3 years ago my 200t launched itself back at me and stopped just under my throat while i was using it,lone working, 1 handed on the ground.

I can guarantee that an experience like that will make anyone slow down and contemplate their own mortality.
