Who sharpens a saw like this

Just a small 4 inch record I think. Don't much matter as long as it's deep enough to clamp the center of the bar.

Do it all the time as it's just the way I've always done it plus the boss won't let me bolt anything to his chipper! (I'm 6' and don't find it particularly uncomfortable)

I was grinding some stumps for a council this week and a lad was sharpen his saw like this as a 6ft 1 17 stone lump I carnt bend that way I was just wondering if any 1 can sharpen like this

If i got down like that to sharpen up,it would be dark before i could get back up again.

I made up a vice mounted on box section to drop into the dropside post holes on my truck or trailer this very afternoon.

 

Sharpening on the ground is horrible, I hate it.

 

I also made up a similar dropside hole mount for the cement mixer, to save lugging the stand about. You gotta get up on the truck to shovel the sand outta the bag anyhow!

I do mine in the hopper of the chipper or on the trunk of a felled tree, sharpen one side right handed and the other left handed, I've not used a vice for sharpening a chain for the best part of 20 years, I dread to think how many chains I've filed away, must be 1000's.

as long as he has the angles right I don't think it matters, I usually straddle my saw when in the wood, helps keep it steady and I don't have to carry any sort of vice, at end of day it's how we all feel comfortable, we all must be different
