any sort of muck, and stuff from the table like vegetable skins, apple cores that will rot down.

 

i don't see why ash should be used sparingly on a veg patch as volcanoes are some of the most fertile places on earth and they're not short of ash in those soils...

interesting woodchip dugin/rotovated into the soil h,mm not so sure its the rite thing though i thought it would suppress not encourage and rejuvinate/feed the soil etc i,e does it not become acidic ???

veg peelings, barbeque remains, leaves, hedge chip and even wood shavings from the lathe or planer all go into the compost heap and from there onto the garden

I dump my woodstove ash, parents lawn clippings composted with wood dust/shavings from firewood cutting on mine. Try to vary where it gets put. I have only got 5x8mtr plot.

Bullock and pig manure are by far the best manures, according to the guys up the allotments. The Chinese used to use 'night soil' in other words human feces.

Here in the UK we were still putting raw sewage on the land in 1999/2000, or there abouts.
