Is this Fransguard winch any good?

Difficult to justify new for the amount I'm going to use it. (two weeks, then who knows! I'd rather second hand because then I won't ever loose money on it.

Have you factored in the cost of the wire they are expensive, a new one comes with a full drum and three chains and sliders. All it takes is for the wire to have been abused and it will just keep getting shorter and shorter then its a few hundred quid to fill the drum back up.

Where on earth are you buying wire from? 9-12mm wire costs a few 10s of pounds per 100m not hundreds.

Clarkes who advertise here otherwise any ships chandler but get the right wire build.

Try Clark's but I priced a new wire from them and it was killed by the carriage. Found a local guy that does lifting tackle so got a wire (25m 8mm)with hard eye for less than £30.

Did get two rope clamps from Clark's to fix another winch wire, easy to fit and refit in the field when the wire goes pop and the sliders don't stick on or destroy them.

Last time i put 30m of 11mm 7/19 cable on a drum in was about 99 quid plus vat and delivery.
