Everyday sexism?

Babe, I'm not trying to ban anything least of all sex, video games, The Mask or even porn (I'll be the first on the barricade if they try and ban sex....or indeed porn). Not sure where I said that in my post. PMSL at the cosmic vibe jibe.....so not me. Don't feel so threatened that you have to resort to cliché....would love to buy you a pint or 5 to explain. PS. The Mask is not a great film. Check out her other work....and indeed what she's had to say on the images of women in the media. X.

Mine was only the (rather poor attempt at a) humorous way to idle away a few minutes of spare time while breast feeding the baby (from my strap-on man boob) before bedtime.

 

I'll take you up on that beer (but not before February, the wife has put us on stoppage of beer for a month.)

Just to be serious for a brief minute though, you're absolutely right that we should be worried about sexualisation of youth. I'm just not sure censorship or PC etc are the best way to approach it. Surely better to encourage awareness, a grasp of reality, robust character and questioning intellect? It's akin to banning competitive sport so that there are no losers. It takes humankind on a downward spiral towards mutually assured dumbness!

The comment is 'we never hide the natural beauty of our bars' relating to the fact that the stars and bar hide the natural beauty of the human feminine body.

 

Maybe to prevent such opinions about it being sexist they should have asked the lady in said advert if she wouldnt mind wearing something that left more to the imagination...a onesie! They hide everything except for peoples lack of dignity!!!

 

Mind if said onesie had a cow or fox resemblance.. hey ho,that's a whole new set of rules for rights activists to lay into.

This advert is not using sex to sell. It might have been considered 'selling with sex' back in the fifties. Now it's selling with humour.

 

Watch a bog standard body spray/perfume advert, and then tell me this chainsaw bar advert is selling with sex and the root of all societies problems.

I can not believe I'm addressing this in my first ever post but...... I'm a little sick and tired of naked/near naked women being used to sell everything from tooth paste to beer to well everything. When women and especially young women are subjected to these images day after day it reinforces an underlying societal belief that a woman's worth is based on how conventionally sexually attractive she is. Add that to the input of the media, fashion and cosmetic surgery industries and its no wonder eating disorder, low self esteem and self harm rates in women are through the roof (and before someone says it, yes these rates are on the rise for blokes too, but no where near as high as for women).

 

If you'd be happy with this cartoon (or any of the other images posted in this thread) depicting your daughters, wives, female mates or mothers......then I'd be shocked.

 

And 'feminist clap trap' really??? Haven't seen that in print for years. All feminism means is equality between men and women. Nothing to be frightened about lads. I'm a proud feminist and manage to combine that with a sense of humour, being straight and on occations heals.

 

Finally. Don't you feel insulted as men that an ad agency thinks you're so stupid and narrowly focused that you'll buy anything as long as its advertised with a massive pair of t***??? Personally I get really angry that the media think men are that dumb. Here endith the first sermon. Hope my next post can be about technical issues and advise from this amazing source of info.

 

Your comment about my clap trap remark has left my self esteem at an all time low, I am off to empty the fridge ( starting with the beer ) will give the self harming thing a miss though

I may have misled you a little there.... She hasn't IMPOSED a booze ban, we both realised it was getting a bit much / frequent so decided to go dry for January. It's been a real struggle though at times, how much did I want a can when I got home tonight

 

Apparently, it's really good for liver function to have a decent break but......Roll on Feb!!

I tend to keep 2.0% stuff around so if I really fancy a couple of cans during the week it does not feel so bad. Asda do 4 cans for a quid not great but drinkable. Most lagers now are nearly 5% continental strength which due to lack of fluid is probably 4 times the strength of the cheap stuff.

The sugihara advert isn't sexist, it's disturbing.

 

It's like someone's trying to carry out female genital mutilation on that woman with a steel guide bar. There's satanic cults in the most poverty stricken, uneducated parts of South America who wouldn't have thought of anything as morally bankrupt as that image.

 

If you see that advert and it makes you want to buy those guide bars you're probably into S&M with the emphasis on sadism, you're also probably clinically insane.

 

Sexist? that's the least of that adverts problem.
