skyhook is right - January is a depressing month when you first start- the phone may have stopped ringing in early December and you sit there watching TV waiting for it to start again. If you wait, it'll be end March before things improve. You need to be proactive. Get out there. network. Go say hello to people. Grab every bit of confidence, take it with you and don't let 'no' chip away at it.

Hiya,

I live in Cornwall and run my owl landscaping/garden maintenance business, I also do tree work when required. I have been doing it for approx 6 months and am wondering if its worth keeping going or calling it a day. I love working, it gives me a sence of purpose and achievement that is very important to me, if I have a day where i dont feel that I have achieved something i find it hard to deal with. I have the drive and enthuasism to work but im finding it very hard to find work! I appreciate that its early days for my business but I would be greatfull for any hints on how to get some work coming in, I have tried;

Emailing local places with grounds/gardens

Fliers

Website (which is being modified at the mo to try and get on the magical first page of google)

Any additional ideas are very welcome!

Worked wonders for me, ordered 12,500 a6 leaflets for about £60. I found a couple of polish guys delivering local takeaway menus and got mine delivered with the menus for about £7.50 per 1000.

Following that I arranged leaflet distribution for a couple of other peoples businesses making sure no more than 4 different trades went into each door at a time. I charge the other 3 people 1/3 of the delivery rate per 1000 and now get mine delivered for free.

I also use the other methods mentioned above but the leaflet campaigns have been the most successful for sure.
