I get this all the time. I always respond the same way as you did, by stating that it would be the same either way. As it all goes to the bank so that my books balance. In all honesty I'm not clever enough to juggle cash payments to dodge the tax. I'm better off just putting it all in the bank. It only goes on takeaways if I do bring it home.

It insinuates that you will commit tax fraud if they offer cash. Hate them for that. It ALL goes in the bank. People all over think I'm nuts. Ha, let em think what they want!

Unfortunately it's the way of the world now. Everyone looks to get a bit off and save some money, me included with two young children money is far better in my pocket than any one else's. Just a case of you don't ask you don't get. But your rite when the boot is on the other foot it's a no all day long :)

You bunch of hypocrites, how many of you haven`t tried to dangle cash under the nose of a seller in anticipation of a price reduction? :) Answers on a post card please.

If nothing else, you don't know what the client does for a job.

I have heard tale of a tax inspector who was a bit of a git. Whenever he had a tradesman come round to give a quote for whatever work - he would always do the any discount for cash line.

Unfortunately, he would also follow up with a tax inspection if any of the tradesmen took the bait...

yes i knowsomeone who did a job asked how he wanted paying cash be ok few weeks later got a letter from HMRC asking to look at his books.

his job was not in the books. they dug there talons in

I used to sell new cars (for my sins) at one stage in my life, and 9 times out of 10 the first thing out of customers mouths was "what will you do for cash?" As if we would just sneak a sale of a 25k car past the books for them.

The company got paid the same way whether it be cash, finance, cheque, p/x etc.

So it's not just this world pal!
