In seriousness, I've been splitting poplar of late and I've fallen in love. It's the easiest splitting timber I've ever had, and flies through the screw splitter. It might not be the best firewood as an end product, but there is a huge amount to be said for it being incredibly cheap, very easy to process and rapid drying.

Poplar, including Aspen, is amazing! Wet and heavy off the tree but drying quickly to very light weight. I use it to get the fire going. Poplar has no heartwood, it doesn't have the ability to put on all those tars and phenols and difficult oily things that are a problem for chimneys at lower temperatures. And it leaves (almost) no ash.

oak    if i had enough room to be 2 years ahead  for seasoning  but  only just have enough room for 1 year  love the heat and how long well season oak  burns

but i also like the instant heat of conifer yes it doesn't last long  but it has some good  heat ! that you then can add some hard wood too
