Which Cordless drill?

I've decided i'll probably go for a makita as it seems popular with good reviews.

Still not sure which model to go for, there are loads:

18v Combi Drills, DeWALT Combi Drills, Bosch Drills, Makita Combi Drills, Hitachi Combi Drills, Lithium Combi Drills, 18v Makita Combi Drills, Tools Online, Makita UK, Power Tools UK

Any ideas or are they all pretty similar?

Ideally i want one with two batteries.

+1 for the Erbauer I've got an 18v combi one, main reason for buying it was the all metal gearbox and also came with 3 yr warranty, one of its main uses is drilling gate posts for hinges to save lugging a generator about, will put a 19mm auger bit through an 8inch gatepost no trouble at all :thumbup1:

+2 for Erbauer...

Very sturdy in 18v form..batteries last good all rounder..

Makita li on you don't need 2 batteries , ive never flattened 1 battery using it heavily in 1 day.

This is the one you need if you want Makita and are going to do gateposts etc.

Makita BHP451RFE Combi Drill 18v x 3Ah Li-ion Batteries 0088381076067

Metal gearbox and three speeds.

If you let go of that boring into some heavy oak, the damn thing will knock you out! Serious torque.

I've abused mine for getting on 6 years, and although I'm on the second set of batteries this would be the same with any Li-ion drill over that timescale. The drill body itself is going strong.

Chucks are the weak point on many of these drills, Makita included. I've replaced mine with a keyed chuck.

Cheers, do you reckon its worth getting two batteries if its only going to be used now and then? how long do they tend to last you?

my god son is an industrial electrician and tells me to buy hilti all the way he works all over the country and him and his work mates also rate the hilti

We have tested the newer range of hilti drills and they blow our makita 18v sds out of the water. The back up from hilti is also excellent. Think we are purchasing two in the new year now.

Our makita has been good but batteries last us about a year. Drilling everyday in all weathers.

Wouldn't touch newer dewalts with a barge pole. Had a few of the older ones with metal gearbox and they pretty much gave up before a year. The older stuff wasn't too bad.
